A Shakespeare expert says a computer program designed to detect plagiarism has proven that William Shakespeare had a hand in writing The Reign of King Edward III. The question of who wrote the play has long vexed scholars, but when its language was compared with Shakespeare’s early work, there were a high number of similarities in speech patterns in four scenes, which account for around 40 percent of the play. The other scenes had lots of matches with works by Thomas Kid, a popular playwright at the time.
